After a spinoff of the hit crime drama, originally starring Damson Idris, was greenlit back in March 2023, FX officially added three new series regulars to the upcoming pilot.
Actors Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Compton rapper Buddy, real name Simmie Sims III, have been tapped for the series and will join returning stars Gail Bean (Wanda Bell-Simmons) and Isaiah John (Leon Simmons), reprising their roles from the original show.

Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the show will follow a recovering addict (Bean) who “strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war.”
Asante is known for his roles in the critically acclaimed drama When They See Us and This Is Us, and will also reportedly be a part of the upcoming season of HBO’s Euphoria starring Zendaya.
Peyton is coming off roles in All American: Homecoming, Legacies, and BMF, while Buddy has appeared in TV series such as Rap Sh!t and Bel-Air, and has collaborated musically with popular artists like Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, and Miley Cyrus.
The pilot, penned by Malcolm Spellman, will include several original Snowfall producers. The original series, co-created by the late John Singleton, aired for six seasons and earned acclaim for its gritty portrayal of the crack epidemic in South Central L.A.
