Singer Jon B Regrets Criticizing Chloe Bailey & Gunna’s ‘They Don’t Know’ Sample
Jon B is walking back his comments about Chloe Bailey and Gunna sampling his song “They Don’t Know” for their 2022 track “You & Me.”
In a new interview with Shirley Ju on the Shirley’s Temple podcast, the R&B singer said, “I regretted how I spoke on it the first time because I wasn’t used to being on podcasts.”
He added, “It hurt me because I was like, ‘Man, that could be my daughter right there.’” As a father of two daughters and a husband of 18 years, Jon said there’s a “respect factor” in his household, and “I never wanna come off like a hater.”
Last year, Jon called the song a “ratchet record” and claimed, “[They] never actually got my rights to do that record either, so Gunna, we gotta holler about that.”
He continued, “If you made a hit in your area… I’m not going to just come into your area, take your joint, and make it mine and not pay you or whatever.”
Chloe addressed the criticism in an interview on The Breakfast Club, saying, “Jon B is an incredible artist. If that song didn’t exist, we couldn’t sample it. I love what Gunna and I did to it. I’m sad he feels that way, but, hey, everyone has opinions.”
