Illinois Teacher Originally Charged w/ Sexual Abuse Of Student Now Facing 52 More Charges, Including Solicitation & Grooming
A Downers Grove teacher’s legal troubles have worsened.
Christina Formella, 30, who was first arrested in March on three charges related to a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student, has now been indicted on 52 additional charges. These include 20 counts of criminal sexual assault, 20 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, six counts of indecent solicitation of a child, and six counts of grooming.
At a June 17 hearing, the state requested to revoke her pre-trial release, but the judge allowed her to remain free until her next court date on August 4, 2025.

The victim came forward after about 50 alleged instances of abuse that began in January 2023 and continued through late summer 2024 during tutoring sessions at school and at Formella’s home.
Court documents show the victim’s mother discovered text messages between her son and a number linked to Formella after buying him a new phone. Investigators also found several mentions of the student in Formella’s phone notes. When questioned, Formella said the notes were an “outlet for her anxiety” and that any references to sex were about her husband.
