T-Pain Reveals His First Stage Name Was ‘Mr. Torturer’ Before A Bandmate Suggested ‘Tallahassee Pain’
T-Pain went through quite the transformation to find his stage identity.
The music star, real name Faheem Rashad Najm, appeared on the Crash Dummies podcast recently, where he was asked how he came up with his iconic name. Surprisingly, it wasn’t his first pick. T-Pain revealed: “My name used to be Mr. Torturer. I was like 14.”
After a few laughs, he added: “So I used to be Mr. Torturer, and one of the people that used to be in my group, Birdchest Johnson, was like, ‘I’m not saying that.’”
T-Pain said he and Birdchest ended up workshopping new names, pulling “pain” from torture, and using “T” to represent his hometown of Tallahassee.
