MLB Star Ketel Marte Breaks Down In Tears After White Sox Fan Heckles Him About His Late Mother
Ketel Marte got emotional during a game against the Chicago White Sox after a fan reportedly taunted him about his late mother.
Cameras caught the Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman with tears running down his face during a pitching change in the seventh inning of Arizona’s 4-1 win on June 24. Marte’s teammates and coach quickly came to his side, offering support as announcers wondered what had happened.
A Diamondbacks spokesperson confirmed Marte was upset because a fan heckled him about his mother, Elpidia Valdez, who passed away in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in 2017.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said he saw the impact of the incident immediately:
“I could see he was sobbing. It hurt. I told him, ‘I love you and I’m with you and we’re all together and you’re not alone. No matter what happens, no matter what was said or what you heard, that guy is an idiot.'”
The fan was ultimately removed and banned from Chicago’s Rate Field.
