Anna Wintour Steps Down As Editor-In-Chief Of Vogue After 37 Years
Anna Wintour is moving on.
According to reports, the fashion icon announced she’s stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue during a staff meeting on June 25. While she’s leaving that role, she will remain Condé Nast’s global chief content officer and global editorial director for Vogue, continuing to oversee Vanity Fair, GQ, and Architectural Digest.

Wintour first joined the magazine in 1988, famously putting a model in jeans on her first cover.
That same instinct helped usher in a new era of celebrity covers and editorial innovation. Her influence extended beyond fashion, reportedly inspiring the Miranda Priestly character in The Devil Wears Prada and later starring in the 2009 documentary The September Issue, which gave viewers a rare look inside Vogue.
Her successor at the U.S. edition of Vogue has not yet been named.
