Uterine Cancer Expected To Rise Significantly In The U.S. By 2050 w/ Black Women Being Impacted The Most
Uterine cancer is expected to see a major rise in the U.S. in the next 25 years, a new study from the American Association for Cancer Research claims.
The study projects that by 2050, the number of new cases for the cancer, which is the most common type of gynecological cancer, will increase over 50% for Black women and roughly 30% for white women.
Elena Elkin, a researcher at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health who co-authored the study, said things like Kate diagnosis and inaccessibility to adequate care can contribute to the large gap, making Black women three times more likely to be impacted.
She added that factors for the increase include aging, obesity and more women not having hysterectomies to get their uterus removed when battling conditions like fibroids and endometriosis.
