Trump Administration Sues California Over Transgender Athlete Policies That Create ‘A Hostile Educational Environment’
The Trump administration is taking California to court over its rules for transgender athletes.
The Justice Department recently filed a suit accusing the California Department of Education and the California Interscholastic Foundation (CIF) of violating federal civil rights laws. The complaint claims California’s policies “force girls to compete against boys” and create “a hostile educational environment that denies girls educational opportunities.”

Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement,
“The Governor of California has previously admitted that it is ‘deeply unfair’ to force women and girls to compete with men and boys in competitive sports. But not only is it ‘deeply unfair,’ it is also illegal under federal law. This Department of Justice will continue its fight to protect equal opportunities for women and girls in sports.”
The suit comes after transgender student AB Hernandez won two events at a state track meet under a new policy that allowed additional female athletes to participate in events featuring transgender competitors.
