Melania Trump May Get Kennedy Center Opera House Named After Her Due To Republicans’ New Plan
Melania Trump’s name could soon grace one of Washington D.C.’s most iconic venues.
House Republicans have advanced a proposal to rename the Kennedy Center Opera House as the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.”
On July 22, the House Appropriations Committee voted 33-25 in favor of the amendment, which is part of a broader spending bill that also funds the Interior Department and Environmental Protection Agency.
If approved by the full House and signed into law, it would mark the first time a Kennedy Center stage has ever been renamed. Traditionally, first ladies serve as honorary chairs of the Kennedy Center, but this move reflects a growing effort by Donald Trump and his allies to reshape the institution.
Earlier this year, Trump took control of the Kennedy Center, replacing leadership and slashing programming he labeled “woke.” Since then, the Trumps have made only one major public appearance at the center.
What are your thoughts on this possible renaming?
