Barack Obama Shuts Down Donald Trump’s ‘Bizarre’ Claims That He Committed ‘Treason’ & Rigged The 2016 Election: ‘Ridiculous’
Barack Obama’s camp is responding after Donald Trump accused the former president of committing “treason” and rigging the 2016 election.
“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response,” Obama spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush said. “But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one. These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.”
Trump made the comments while dodging questions about Jeffrey Epstein, pivoting to claims of criminality within the Obama administration: “Obama’s been caught directly… This was treason. This was every word you can think of. They tried to steal the election.”
Trump appeared to be referencing a newly released report from National Intelligence Director Tulsi?Gabbard, which claims Obama-era officials “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to subvert Trump’s 2016 victory.
Rodenbush dismissed the claims, pointing to confirmed reports that Russia interfered in the 2016 election: “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.”
