Tia Mowry Addresses ‘Backlash’ Over Calling Herself A Single Mother: ‘I Am Single, I Don’t Have A Partner’
Tia Mowry is clearing the air after getting heat for calling herself a single mom.
In an Instagram post, the actress shared a selfie with the caption, “Why do I get backlash for calling myself a single mom?”
She followed it with a video of her feet in the sand, writing, “Family can look different than what we imagined and still be full of love, stability, and joy. This is my truth.”
Tia, who finalized her divorce from Cory Hardrict in April 2023 after 14 years of marriage, explained that being a single mom doesn’t always mean parenting entirely alone: “What gets overlooked is the nuance of what being a single mom can actually mean… For me, in my household, I am SINGLE. I don’t have a partner, so I’m holding it down for everyone at home. I’m the only parent present day to day.”
Tia went on to emphasize that “different family dynamics” should be normalized, and said what makes a situation “toxic or ‘broken’ is when kids feel the divide… when they feel like they have to choose between parents.”
“Happy, healthy families come in many forms,” she added. “Different doesn’t mean broken. We are family, regardless.”
