Iggy Azalea Says She Regrets ‘Having An Opinion’ After Being Accused Of Using ‘Blaccent’: ‘It Wasn’t My Place’
Iggy Azalea is opening up about the backlash she faced early in her career for using a “blaccent.”
The rapper-turned-entrepreneur recently spoke with ABC News and reflected on the criticism received early in her rise in hip-hop, when she found herself at the center of conversations about cultural appropriation.
Iggy, who broke out in 2014 with her chart-topping debut album The New Classic and hit singles like “Fancy” and “Black Widow,” initially defended herself, claiming no one is truly “hurt” when artists “play around with accents.”

Now, she’s acknowledging how her perspective has shifted. “I said things I shouldn’t have said,” Iggy admitted. “I think sometimes I just regret having an opinion at all because it wasn’t necessarily my place to have an opinion.”
She also reflected on her mindset at the time, saying she believed she “knew everything” while navigating fame in her early 20s.
What are your thoughts on Iggy’s reflection and how she’s grown since her debut?
