Drake Believes UMG CEO Was Personally Involved’ In Not Like Us’ + Seeks Kendrick Lamar Contract Details
Drake is taking his legal battle with UMG to a new level.
His lawyers are asking the court to compel Universal Music Group to produce texts and emails from CEO Lucian Grainge, as they now believe he was involved in the marketing of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track Not Like Us.
In a new filing, they write, “[Drake] now has reason to believe that Grainge was personally involved in decisions made regarding the marketing and promotion of [Not Like Us] around its release … Given that plaintiff has alleged Grainge to be one of the individuals at UMG who acted with actual malice, plaintiff is entitled to seek discovery into Grainge’s files for the purpose of proving Grainge’s actual malice.”

They are also requesting various documents, including Lamar’s record contract, citing possible conflicts between UMG labels Republic and Interscope.
If you recall, Drake is suing Universal Music Group (UMG) for defamation and other claims stemming from the release and promotion of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.”
UMG said the suit was “utterly without merit.”
