Roblox Faces Wave Of Child Safety Lawsuits Alleging Platform Enables Pred@tors, $extortion & Exploit@tion
Roblox is under fire after multiple lawsuits accused the platform of failing to protect children from predators and s*xually explicit content.
One recent federal complaint, filed in Northern California, alleges a Michigan girl was s*xually exploited by an adult posing as a child on the site.
“What Roblox represents as a safe, appropriate space for children is, in fact, a digital and real-life nightmare for kids,” stated Dolman Law Group, which has filed five lawsuits against Roblox since July, with a sixth on the way.
The lawsuits claim Roblox profits when predators offer children Robux—its in-game currency—in exchange for explicit photos. Some predators allegedly use Robux as blackmail, threatening to release the images unless they receive more.
Roblox spokesperson Kadia Koroma called the accusations “categorically untrue” and emphasized that the company uses safeguards and artificial intelligence to detect predatory behavior and alert law enforcement.
Still, critics say the platform’s protections fall short. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill also filed a lawsuit Thursday, while Rep. Ro Khanna is pushing a petition demanding stronger safety measures.
“This is just the wild west,” said attorney Matthew Dolman. “It’s like a hunting ground for predators.”
Parents, do you allow your children to play on Roblox?
