Mýa Says Listening To Her Older Music Makes Her Emotional Because It Reminds Her Of’All
That Was Endured’
#Mýa is opening up about why she prefers not to revisit her older records.
The #Grammy-winning star is reflecting on the 25th anniversary of her Fear of Flying album and keeping it real about the emotions that come with hearing her old music. She told PEOPLE, “I don’t really listen to a lot of the old music because I like my voice now. It’s very cringey to me because I sound like a kid.” She added, “I get very emotional when I hear my younger voice because of all that was endured.”
Mýa went on to describe how being thrust into the spotlight straight out of high school placed her in a vulnerable position. She continued, “I am so enamored by the journey because sometimes it takes 25, 27, 30 years to come into who you’re going to be for the rest of your life — and that’s where I am now. I’m still growing and evolving every few years — every six months, sometimes.”
Mýa has been in the public eye since the ’90s, building a successful career in both music and film. Decades later, she’s learning to honor the woman she’s become while showing gratitude for the journey that shaped her.
