A rep for Smallwood shared with Variety that he passed following complications from kidney failure. During his decades?long career, his music was embraced and recorded by a wide range of artists, helping bridge gospel with mainstream audiences.
A statement shared to his official Instagram account read, “We are saddened to announce the passing of world-renowned artist, songwriter, and musician, Richard Smallwood.
