Teyana Taylor Reveals the One Piece of Advice Beyoncé Gave Her — and It Changed Everything
Teyana Taylor is opening up about the career advice Beyoncé gave her years ago — and according to the multi-hyphenate star, it completely reshaped how she moves in the industry.
In a recent interview, Teyana revealed that Beyoncé, who she’s known since she was a teenager, encouraged her to “invest in yourself” early on, a message that stuck with her as she navigated music, fashion, acting, and directing.
“I used to take everything personal. Everything was from the heart,” Teyana admitted, explaining that Beyoncé helped her separate emotion from business. “She was like, ‘This is a business. Don’t take it personal,’” Teyana recalled.
The singer went on to say Beyoncé also prepared her for the financial realities behind the scenes, reminding her that success doesn’t always look like instant profit. “Every single check ain’t going to hit your pocket,” Teyana said, explaining that much of the money goes back into production, visuals, and paying the team that brings the vision to life.
Still, Beyoncé encouraged her not to be discouraged by that reality, instead pushing her to believe in her own ideas and bet on herself long-term. According to Teyana, the advice helped her understand that reinvesting is part of building something lasting.
Teyana also praised Beyoncé’s humility and consistency, noting that despite her superstar status, she leads by example. “She’s always been the same,” Teyana shared, adding that witnessing that discipline firsthand left a lasting impression.
And while Beyoncé may not hand out advice freely, Teyana made it clear that the words she did receive became a blueprint — one that helped her stop taking losses personally and start seeing them as part of the business of becoming a boss.
