Teyana Taylor Directs First Feature Film “Get Lite,” Kenya Barris Produces

Teyana Taylor is officially leveling up behind the camera. The multi-hyphenate star is set to make her feature film directorial debut with Get Lite, a dance-driven coming-of-age movie that Paramount Pictures has slated for theatrical release on April 9, 2027.

The project is being produced by Kenya Barris, whose Khalabo Ink Society banner is backing the film alongside Taylor, marking a notable collaboration between two powerhouse creatives shaping Black storytelling in Hollywood.

Get Lite centers on a talented but sheltered teenager who stumbles into New York City’s underground dance scene, where movement, music, and community push her to confront identity, freedom, and belonging. The story is described as energetic, emotional, and rooted in culture.

Storm Reid is set to star in the film and also serves as a producer, adding further buzz to the project as both on-screen and behind-the-scenes talent continue to align around Taylor’s vision.

While Taylor is best known for her work as a singer, dancer, and actress, she has quietly built a strong résumé as a director through music videos and visual projects — making Get Lite a natural next step rather than a surprise pivot.
