Ryan Coogler Makes Actor Awards History — First Director Ever With Two Ensemble Wins
History just got a new name — Ryan Coogler.
The Sinners filmmaker has officially become the first director to guide two separate cast ensembles to victory at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards), marking a rare milestone in awards-season history.
Coogler’s latest win comes on the heels of the triumph of his vampiric period drama Sinners at this year’s ceremony. The achievement follows his first ensemble victory back in 2018 for Black Panther, which also starred Michael B. Jordan.
That earlier win cemented Black Panther as a cultural and cinematic powerhouse — and now, with two ensemble victories under his direction, Coogler stands alone in the record books.
The Actor Awards (formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards) recognize outstanding performances in film and television, making ensemble wins especially significant since they honor an entire cast’s performance.
With this latest milestone, Coogler continues to solidify his place as one of Hollywood’s most impactful modern directors — and awards season just added another chapter to his legacy.
