BRANDY Shuts Down Shyne — Says “We Did Not Date,” Distances Herself From Ray J
Brandy is setting the record straight — and she’s not leaving room for confusion. The singer took to social media to firmly deny claims that she once dated rapper Shyne, making it clear their connection in the late ’90s was strictly platonic.
“In the late 90’s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shyne,” she wrote. “That friendship is now being mischaracterized as ‘we dated.’ Unequivocally, we did not!” Brandy added that she’s unsure why the narrative is being reshaped more than two decades later, seemingly in reference to Shyne’s recent media appearances.
The Grammy winner suggested the rumors are part of a larger pattern of people telling “their version” of her life — something she plans to address head-on in her upcoming memoir. “It’s time to tell my truth and debunk many of the misnomers that people think they know about my life,” she shared, promoting her book PHASES, set for release March 31, 2026.
Brandy also made it clear she typically stays silent when headlines get it wrong — but this time, she felt compelled to speak up. “I rarely release statements and typically ignore stories about me… even when they’re false,” she said, noting that when she does respond, she handles it on her own terms.
And while she showed love to her brother Ray J, she subtly checked him too. Brandy clarified that she does not support the messages he’s shared online regarding the situation and emphasized that she never asked him to defend her publicly.
Bottom line: Brandy is reclaiming her narrative — and making it clear that whatever story is being told about her past with Shyne, it’s not the truth.
