Singer Demi Lovato Reveals Past Eating Disorder Triggers: ‘Grocery Stores Would Send Me Into Panic Att*cks’
Demi Lovato is opening up about how something as routine as grocery shopping once felt overwhelming during her battle with an eating disorder.
The singer recently reflected on her journey while promoting her new cookbook, “One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food,” during an appearance on the “Chicks in the Office” podcast.
“I wanted to create a cookbook for people that are in recovery from disordered eating and are looking to take their next steps in the kitchen,” Lovato shared.
She revealed that even stepping into a grocery store used to trigger intense anxiety.
“I was so intimidated by food before that the thought of going into a grocery store would send me into a panic att*ck, and seeing the food everywhere would break me down into tears,” she explained.
Now, Lovato says her relationship with food has transformed. “I know that I’m deserving of the food that I eat… I deserve it all,” she said, adding that recovery has allowed her to take more risks in the kitchen and truly “find freedom with food.”
