Solange Knowles’ Son Julez Addresses ‘Misconceptions’ About His Sexuality In Rare Interview
Julez is opening up about the downside of growing up in the public eye.
The 21-year-old son of singer and actress #SolangeKnowles recently gave fans an insight into his true feelings during a rare livestream interview where he was asked, “What’s the hardest part about being you?” Not holding back, Julez, full name Daniel Smith Jr., replied, “Misconceptions.” Further clarifying his exact sentiments, Julez added, “People think I’m gay.”
He shared that after his mom posted a photo of him dressed as #LLCoolJ, the reaction quickly turned negative, with many making assumptions about his sexuality. “The first time I ever heard of myself in the media… I was 13,” Julez recalled, adding that despite having a girlfriend at the time, “grown a** adults” began labeling him as gay. Reflecting on that moment, he pointed out how unfair it was to be judged so harshly at such a young age, adding, “Cause they was saying I’m pretty, I’m a pretty boy.”
Despite those early experiences, Julez has continued to build his own path, particularly in the fashion world, where he’s walked in major shows across cities like Paris, Milan and New York with strong support from his family.
