50 Cent’s G-Unity Foundation Defends Shreveport Donations After Controversy
50 Cent’s G-Unity Foundation is addressing the growing conversation surrounding its recent charitable donations in Shreveport, making it clear the organization stands by both its process and its mission. In a newly released statement, the nonprofit said the foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity primarily funded by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and has spent more than two decades supporting youth development, leadership, and community-based programs nationwide.
The organization also highlighted its broader footprint, noting it works with at-risk youth, partners with multiple professional sports team foundations across the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, and currently funds a business lab initiative with six Houston high schools through the Houston Independent School District.
As for the Shreveport donations that sparked the online chatter, the foundation said proceeds from a television documentary were personally donated by Jackson through G-Unity to nine charitable organizations in the city that actively work in the domestic violence space, supporting families, children, and abuse victims.
According to the statement, those groups were chosen from written applications submitted under the organization’s long-standing policies, adding that not every submission was approved. The foundation said the selected charities were chosen because of their commitment to helping people across all of Shreveport rather than serving only one specific neighborhood or area.
Still, G-Unity appeared to lean into the moment, saying it was surprised the donations stirred such heated controversy but encouraged by the level of interest in philanthropy. The organization closed by inviting the public to learn more, donate, volunteer, and submit future partnership applications as it continues supporting causes in Shreveport and beyond.
