Evacuated American Cruise Ship Passenger Tests Positive For Hantavirus – French Passenger Develops Symptoms On Flight Home

Passengers aboard the virus-stricken cruise ship MV Hondius have begun returning home after being evacuated from the #CanaryIslands, with health officials continuing to monitor those who were exposed. Initial reports indicated that among the 17 American passengers flown back to the U.S., one tested positive for #hantavirus but was not showing any symptoms, according to officials.

An update from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services later added that an 18th American passenger, who also holds British citizenship, traveled on the return flight and is now receiving care in Omaha alongside the majority of the other repatriated passengers. Officials also confirmed that two passengers were transported to Emory University’s RESPTC in Atlanta for further evaluation and treatment.
