Gayle King’s Ex-Husband Apologizes After She Details Coming Home From A Trip & Catching Him Cheating With Her Close Friend

#GayleKing’s latest interview led to a lengthy public apology from her ex-husband.

William Bumpus is speaking out after the TV anchor revisited one of the most painful moments of their marriage — and he’s taking full responsibility. In a public statement shared with TMZ, William issued a heartfelt apology for cheating on Gayle decades ago with a close friend of hers, saying, “My deepest apologies to Gayle… for the pain I caused… Those actions were mine.” He made it clear he’s long owned up to the betrayal, which resurfaced after Gayle detailed the incident on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.

According to Gayle, a change of flight plans brought her and their children home early — and when they arrived, her then-husband was in a towel, telling her, “You can’t come in.” Gayle said she ignored his plea and searched the house, finding her close friend “cowering” behind a door, also in a towel.

In his apology, William also acknowledged Gayle’s decision to speak openly about the ordeal, adding, “Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family.” Despite the fallout, he emphasized there’s no bad blood over her telling the story now, noting, “I respect her right to tell her story, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”

While their marriage ended in 1993 following the infidelity, William reflected on the positives that came from their relationship — especially their family.

These days, he says they’re in a good place and maintain a strong family bond decades after the split.
