Naomi Osaka Reveals Nike Plans Her Tennis Looks 18 Months In Advance
Naomi Osaka is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into her eye-catching tennis fashion.
During a recent press conference at Roland Garros, the four-time Grand Slam champion revealed that her tournament outfits aren’t thrown together at the last minute. According to Osaka, Nike begins planning her Grand Slam looks at least a year and a half in advance and conducts multiple fittings to make sure everything is competition-ready.
“I don’t think people realize how much time and effort they put into every outfit,” Osaka explained. “They plan it like a year and a half in advance. And that’s like minimum.”
The tennis star said the process includes several fittings throughout the year because factors such as fabric adjustments and changes in body weight can affect the final design. When asked how many fittings are involved, Osaka estimated there are “at least four.”
Osaka also shared that she doesn’t view her fashion choices as something separate from her performance on the court. In fact, she said wearing a traditional tennis outfit would feel more unusual to her these days.
“For me it would be weirder to wear a normal tennis kit almost at this point,” she said. “It’s literally like my self expression.”
The athlete added that after going through a period where tennis wasn’t as enjoyable, she now wants the sport to feel exciting again — and her unique outfits are part of that journey.
What do you think of Naomi Osaka’s fashion-forward approach to tennis?
