Idris Elba Says Audiences Wouldn’t Accept A Black James Bond

Idris Elba is revisiting the long-running rumors that he could one day play James Bond — and says he never believed it would actually happen.

During a recent interview, the actor explained that race became a major factor in the conversation surrounding his name. Elba said, “James Bond is a franchise that audiences have lived with for over 60 years. They won’t go for a Black male.”

For years, fans pushed for Elba to become the first Black actor to portray 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role. However, Elba suggested that while the public conversation gained momentum, he never viewed himself as a serious contender.

The actor also reflected on how discussions about his potential casting often focused less on his acting abilities and more on his race. Previous comments from Elba have described that aspect of the debate as disappointing, despite appreciating the support from fans who championed him for the role.

While Bond rumors continue to follow him, Elba appears ready to close that chapter.

The actor made it clear that he never truly believed the franchise would move in that direction, even as speculation about his future as 007 dominated headlines for years.
