Trump Says He’s Unsure If Stephen A. Smith Has A High IQ After He Blames POTUS For Knicks Loss
Game 3 of the NBA Finals had plenty of drama on and off the court, and President Trump was right in the middle of it.
Trump attended the #Knicks vs. Spurs matchup at Madison Square Garden Monday night (June 8), watching from owner James Dolan’s suite after earlier reports suggested he’d be sitting courtside. His presence alone stirred controversy, as he was loudly booed by sections of the crowd when shown on the Jumbotron during the national anthem. Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith made his feelings crystal clear earlier that day on his podcast, saying “This president has no business showing up in New York City. I am dead serious. It is selfish. It is narcissistic. It is ridiculous that he is coming to this game.”
The Knicks ultimately fell to the #Spurs 115-111, snapping their historic 13-game postseason winning streak. As Trump was departing New York and boarding Air Force One, a reporter asked him directly about Smith’s comments. Trump didn’t hold back, taking a swipe not just at the criticism, but at Smith’s widely discussed flirtations with a 2028 presidential run. “I think he’s a nice guy, but you need a certain aptitude to run for president. You need a high IQ. I’m not sure that Stephen has that. I don’t think he does, actually,” #Trump said. Game 4 is set for Wednesday (June 10) — again at MSG — don’t expect either side to go quiet anytime soon.
