Kevin Durant Warns Jalen Brunson After Knicks’ Championship: ‘It Could Be Another 53 Years’
Kevin Durant is encouraging Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks to savor their historic NBA championship—and not take future opportunities for granted.
During a recent interview, Durant reflected on the Knicks ending their 53-year title drought and offered some advice to Brunson, who helped lead the franchise to its long-awaited championship. According to Durant, moments like these are never guaranteed to happen again.
“I would tell him to strike while the iron’s hot. This is a time that I don’t think New Yorkers or the Knicks are gonna get back. You gotta take advantage of this time right now. You don’t know if this will come around. It’s been 53 years. It could be another 53-year wait.”
The future Hall of Famer also praised Brunson for staying true to himself throughout his rise to NBA stardom, saying the Knicks guard has earned the city’s respect through hard work and perseverance.
“Jalen has done such a great job of being him every single day and stepping up. His identity is just about grinding from the bottom and being somebody in New York City who made history in New York City. Right now is an important time for him and the Knicks, and I feel like he’s gonna take full advantage of it.”
Brunson cemented his place in Knicks history by leading the franchise to its first NBA championship since 1973, ending one of the longest title droughts in professional sports. Durant’s message serves as both congratulations and a reminder that sustained success in the NBA is never promised, even for championship-caliber teams.
