Charles Barkley Explains Why He Skipped Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce’s Wedding: I Thought It Was Gonna Be a Crap Show
#CharlesBarkley had a golden ticket to what some have called the biggest celebrity event of the year, and he turned it down flat.
The NBA Hall of Famer, 63, revealed on the July 7 episode of the Unfiltered with Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo podcast that he skipped #TaylorSwift and #TravisKelce’s July 3 Madison Square Garden wedding, despite being invited. His reasoning had less to do with the couple and more to do with a longstanding personal rule: “I don’t go to weddings or funerals,” he said, adding that he “politely declined” because “I thought it was gonna be a crap show.”
Barkley made clear there’s no beef with the newlyweds, saying, “I love Travis and Jason, and I’ve only met Taylor one time.” He explained his real preference was low-key downtime over black-tie obligations, telling the hosts, “I just want to hang out and play golf, but I don’t want to dress up and all that other stuff” — while still calling the invite “pretty special.” The wedding itself reportedly drew roughly 1,000 guests, including A-listers like Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, and Brad Pitt, with Adam Sandler officiating.
