Kevin Durant’s $250K Investment Could Reportedly Turn Into More Than $60 Million
Kevin Durant could be looking at a massive payday from an early investment in artificial intelligence company Hugging Face.
The NBA star and his longtime business partner, Rich Kleiman, invested in the AI startup through their investment company Thirty Five Ventures. Sports business commentator Joe Pompliano reports Durant put $100,000 into Hugging Face’s seed round and another $150,000 into its Series A, totaling $250,000.
The investment is getting renewed attention following reports that Nvidia is acquiring Hugging Face in a deal valued at $12.9 billion. Hugging Face is an AI platform that allows developers to build, share and work with AI models and datasets.
Based on Durant’s reported early investments, Pompliano estimates the NBA star could make more than $60 million from the deal, calling it “one of the best athlete investments ever.” However, Durant’s current ownership stake and potential payout have not been publicly disclosed, so the $60 million figure remains an estimate.
