Media Personality Kalen Allen Says He’s Been Getting De@th Threats Over Resurfaced Interview Where Raven-Symoné Questioned If Her Famous Disney Channel Character Was Really Black

The internet’s pitchforks are currently aimed at #KalenAllen … and he’s fighting back.

The comedian took to Threads Wednesday morning (Sept. 2), saying he’s been getting de@th threats over a resurfaced interview clip in which #RavenSymoné questioned whether her famous Disney character, #RavenBaxter, and her fictional family were really Black. Kalen provided some context about what went down off camera, explaining why he didn’t push back much on Raven’s take. He also made it clear he’s not here for people putting words in his mouth, adding, “What is NOT accountability is assigning someone else’s words to me and then threatening me over words I NEVER SAID.”

ICYMI: A months-old interview featuring Raven and her wife, Miranda Maday, sitting down with Kalen for their podcast has the internet on fire. At one point, the conversation turned to That’s So Raven and what it meant for Kalen to see a Black family on screen, with him saying, “Raven Baxter was so “f*cking Black.” However, Raven quickly pushed back on his POV, responding with the question: “Was she Black? Why did she feel Black to you?” She went on to say that Kalen “saw color,” and the Baxter family could have been green because the storylines were meant to be universal.

Many have expressed disappointment over Raven’s take, with some pulling up moments from the Disney series that specifically addressed #RavenBaxter’s Blackness and Black culture. Others have also resurfaced controversial comments Raven made over the years, including a 2015 moment from The View where she said she wouldn’t hire someone she considered to have a ghetto name, such as “Watermelondrea.”

Raven has yet to speak publicly about the situation with Kalen.
