Raven-Symoné Accused Of Bragging She Skipped Voting For “The Black Girl” While Being A Judge In 2001 Miss Teen USA Pageant
It doesn’t look like #RavenSymoné is getting out of the hot seat anytime soon.
The #Disney star is already facing backlash over a resurfaced podcast clip in which she questioned whether her “That’s So Raven” character and fictional family were actually Black. Now, she’s being called out by former pageant contestant Gloria Almonte. According to Gloria, after finishing as first runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2001, Raven — who served as a celebrity judge at the pageant — approached her at the coronation party and allegedly gloated about voting for her over the “Black girl.”
Gloria says there was a lot going on at the time, so she didn’t pick up on the possible undertones of Raven’s alleged comment. But more than 20 years later, she sees the situation very differently. “Now, I’m like. WTF you mean black girl? Her name is Marissa. Miss Missouri….Mind you, I’m Puerto Rican. What is wrong with this woman,” she added.
The latest comments come after a resurfaced clip from Raven’s “Tea Time with Raven and Miranda” podcast, in which she spoke with media personality #KalenAllen about her Disney character, #RavenBaxter. Since then, several other controversial moments from Raven’s past have also resurfaced — including a 2015 appearance on “The View,” where she said she wouldn’t hire someone she considered to have a ghetto name, using “Watermelondrea” as an example.
