George Floyd’s Family Questions Where Millions In GoFundMe Donations Went After His D*ath-Demands Full Financial Records
Members of George Floyd’s family are pressing for a full accounting of the millions of dollars donated through a memorial fundraiser created after his 2020 d*ath
According to TMZ, Houston attorney Kayla Moncier sent a letter on behalf of Floyd’s sisters, Zsazsa and LaTonya, and his brother, Rodney Floyd, demanding financial records from their brother Philonise Floyd, who organized the George Floyd Memorial GoFundMe.
The August 11 letter states the campaign raised roughly $19 million. The relatives argue that, as George’s heirs, they should have received a share of those funds and believe the amount distributed to them has not been properly explained.
They are requesting GoFundMe statements, transaction histories, tax documents and other records showing how the donations were managed and distributed. Philonise was reportedly given 20 days to provide the information, with the family’s attorney expressing hope that the dispute could be resolved without further action.
The relatives claim they have previously asked for financial details but have not received sufficient documentation. They also say they contacted attorney Ben Crump seeking additional information but did not receive a response.
Rodney told TMZ, “We want to see the records, understand how decisions were made, and make sure the family’s questions are answered. We’re speaking up because transparency matters.”
The fundraiser became one of GoFundMe’s biggest campaigns, collecting nearly $13 million from almost 500,000 donations within days.
Philonise previously said donations would cover funeral costs, counseling, court-related travel and other family expenses, while a portion would support George’s children and their education.
