Halle Berry Completes Parenting Program Amid Custody Dispute w/ Ex-Husband, Who Accused Her Of Physically Abusing Their Son
Halle Berry has completed a court-required parenting program as her contentious custody battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez continues.
According to TMZ, the Oscar-winning actress signed a certificate on Tuesday (Oct. 6), confirming she completed the Los Angeles Superior Court’s “Our Children First” online mediation orientation and parent education program. The course is a standard requirement for parents involved in custody or visitation disputes.
The development comes amid serious allegations involving the former couple’s 13-year-old son, Maceo. Martinez previously accused Berry of physically att@cking their son, allegedly placing him in a he@dlock and ch0king him during an incident involving a virtual reality game. Berry has strongly denied the accusations, maintaining that she and Maceo were “playfully roughhousing” and insisting she never placed her hands around his neck or restricted his breathing.
In court documents, Berry defended herself, stating, “I would never hurt our child.” The actress, who has described herself as a domestic v*olence survivor and advocate, also accused Martinez of failing to establish appropriate boundaries for their son and resisting professional assistance for his behavioral and neurodivergent challenges. Martinez has disputed her allegations regarding his parenting.
The custody dispute has also prompted Berry’s 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Aubry, to defend her mother. In a court declaration, Nahla stated that she has never witnessed Berry physically ab•se her younger brother or act v*olently toward anyone. She also challenged allegations that her mother made r@cially offensive comments about Martinez.
A judge previously granted Martinez a temporary restraining order against Berry, limiting her time with Maceo to court-ordered visitation. However, Berry has retained final decision-making authority concerning their son’s mental health treatment and education.
The former couple, who finalized their divorce in 2023, are scheduled to return to court on October 16 as their custody dispute continues.
