[AUDIO] First Lady Michelle Obama Comes Face To Face With A Heckler, ‘Listen To Me Or You Can Take The Mic!’
If there’s one thing that you’re not going to do while the First lady Michelle Obama is speaking, it’s try your hand a heckling her. And in the words of Tamar Braxton (did I quote her), a woman by the name of Ellen Sturtz ‘tried it’, unsuccessfully. According to the Washington Post, FLOTUS experienced a rare face-to-face encounter with a protester late Tuesday – approaching the activist and threatening to leave a fundraiser if the person did not stop interrupting her speech. The whole thing went down while she was addressing a Democratic Party fundraiser in a private Kalorama home in Northwest Washington. Ellen Sturtz, 56, a lesbian activist, interrupted her remarks to demand that President Obama sign an anti-discrimination executive order. Reportedly, the first lady showed her displeasure – pausing to confront Sturtz eye to eye, according to witnesses.
“One of the things that I don’t do well is this. Do you understand?”
A pool report from a reporter in the room said Obama “left the lectern and moved over to the protester.”
The pool report quoted Obama as saying:
Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.
At that point, someone in the audience told the heckler, Ellen,
“You need to go.”
Ellen was thenwas escorted out of the room. Peep the audio below.
Ellen later gave her side of the story, explaining:
She came right down in my face. I was taken aback.I said I want your husband to sign the executive order. Her husband could sign this order tonight and protect 22 percent of the work force in this country.
Eek. What are your thoughts on how FLOTUS handled the situation? After all, we do have freedom of speech, right? Or is there a time and place when folk should voice their political concerns?
