America’s Next Top Model Picked Up by VH1, Tyra Banks Will Be Replaced As Host
It’s back! America’s Next Top Model has been resurrected. As you know, the reality competition threw up the deuces, after having a 22-cycle run on TV. However, the show is returning and has been picked up by VH1 for a new 14-episode season, according to Deadline.
Reportedly, Tyra Banks will not host the show, but will continue as an executive producer alongside original Top Model executive producer Ken Mok. There will be a new host and judges.
Banks says of the news,
After creating an incredible, global brand, I am beyond excited to have the show reborn. I will continue as Executive Producer, but must turn my attention to new business endeavors, so I want to find a new host. I’m pumped to identify that person and bring back the show. Top Model fans, you demanded that the show come back, and VH1 answered the call. Get ready for a fierce-a-fied rebirth!
America’s Next Top Model premiered on May 20, 2003 and had its series finale on December 4, 2015. It originally aired on UPN, whose merger with The WB created The CW in 2006. The program aired for 22 seasons (“cycles”), and each cycle saw a number of aspiring models compete for the title of “America’s Next Top Model,” providing them with an opportunity to begin their career in the modeling industry. It was hosted by supermodel and television personality Tyra Banks, who additionally served as its executive producer and presenter.
America’s Next Top Model employed a panel of three (cycles 13-18, 21-22) or four (cycles 1-12, 19–20) judges who critiqued contestants’ progress throughout the competition. The original panel consisted of Banks, Janice Dickinson, Beau Quillian, and Kimora Lee Simmons. The panel for the final two seasons consisted of Banks, Kelly Cutrone, and J. Alexander. The series was among the highest-rated programs on UPN, and was the highest-rated show on The CW from 2007 to 2010. The show’s cancellation was confirmed on October 14, 2015 and the series concluded on December 4, 2015. It was the last show originally from UPN to end its run. The show was picked up by VH1 but the presence of Tyra Banks has not yet been confirmed.
