(EXCLUSIVE) Biggie’s Estate & Rita Ora Hit With $24 Million Lawsuit + Diddy, Eminem, Busta Rhymes Also Named
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, the Estate of Notorious B.I.G. has been hit with a 24 million dollar lawsuit by a world famous poet – who is accusing the late rapper of stealing the legendary rap hook in his song, “Party and Bullshit” – and he is also furious his Estate is licensing out the stolen music to artists like Rita Ora.
A world famous poet named Abiodun Oyewole – aka Tunes by Dune – filed a 24 million dollar federal lawsuit against The Estate of Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z’s Roc Nation and Rita Ora accusing them all of stealing his music without his permission nor paying him.
The man explains he is also a recording artist and calls himself a pioneer in the music industry. He was a member of The Last Poets which was the first recorded rap record in the United States and he claims the band was considered to have laid the foundation for the emergence of hip hop music.
Oyewole says he wrote the musical composition entitled, “When the Revolution Comes” which repeatedly used the hook, “Party and Bullshit” and owns the copyright to the track.
He claims the late Notorious B.I.G. never obtained a license to sample his song in the rapper’s, “Party and Bullshit” which was released in 1993.
[Diddy signed Biggie to Bad Boy Records. Diddy helped him release the track ‘Party And Bullsh*t’.] The poet says he had intended to pursue action against Biggie for the illegally use of his music but he died soon later. Oyewole didn’t want to hassle his widow or mother following the loss of their loved one.
He didn’t expect any more issues of infringement so he dropped the issue. However, he claims the Estate of Notorious B.I.G. has recently licensed the rapper’s song to Rita Ora for her 2012 single “How We Do (Party)”, which was produced by Justin Combs Publishing and is owned by Diddy. This infuriated Oyewole who headed to court and slapped Biggie’s estate, Ora, Roc Nation and several music producers and labels with a 24 million dollar lawsuit.
In fact, Busta Rhymes and Eminem are also named in the suit, over the song ‘Calm Down’, which was released in 2014.The Plaintiff claims the lyrics to the song wrongfully exploits his work.
He is demanding an injunction from them continuing to infringe on his copyright along with damages for the money he has lost by them stealing his work without permission. Further, he wants the judge to order he is the true owner of the phrase “party and bull or bullshit”.
