Frank Ocean New Album ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ Will Be Released Friday (ALLEGEDLY)
Frank Ocean’s new album, may be on it’s way — maybe. New York Times reports, “Boys Don’t Cry,” is expected to be released on Friday through an exclusive deal with Apple Music, according to a person with knowledge of the release plans. The release is also expected to include a major video and a printed publication called “Boys Don’t Cry” that will be distributed at Apple stores.
His album is expected to remain exclusive to Apple for only two weeks before becoming more widely available, according to that person, who was not authorized to discuss the release plans and therefore spoke on condition of anonymity.
The information has not yet been confirmed. Last month, he hinted that his new project may be released in July. The singer posted a library card with dates crossed off.
Earlier today, a mysterious video circulated, hinting of Ocean’s new music. Director Francisco Soriano briefly took credit for the video itself early Monday in an Instagram post that was later deleted — but many viewers did notice the Apple Music logo in a watermark on the feed.
Ocean embarked on his musical career as a ghostwriter for several prominent artists, including John Legend, Justin Bieber and Brandy. In 2010, he became a member of Odd Future. Ocean subsequently released his breakout mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, to critical acclaim in 2011. The singles, “Novacane” and “Swim Good”, both achieved chart success. In 2012, Ocean finished in second place in BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll. His debut studio album, Channel Orange, was released in July 2012 to critical acclaim and was promoted with three charting singles: “Thinkin Bout You”, “Pyramids” and “Sweet Life”. Ocean’s music has been characterized by music writers as idiosyncratic in style.
