(EXCLUSIVE) Justin Timberlake Reaches Settlement in Cirque du Soleil Lawsuit Over Stolen Music
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Justin Timberlake has reached a settlement in the legal battle with Timbaland in which the duo were accused of stealing from Cirque du Soleil. The popular dance company returned to court this week explaining they reached a confidential deal with the pop star to dismiss the case.
Here’s the latest: On September 7th, Cirque went to court and filed docs in the case explaining they have reached a settlement. Cirque explains,
We are pleased to inform the court that the case has been settled in principle, subject to the execution of a formal settlement agreement.
The company is asking that the court give them 60 days for them to finalize the deal and then once it is executed the case will be dismissed. While Timberlake can breathe a little easier with this case coming to a close, the singer is still facing a separate lawsuit with Wil.i.Am over allegations he ripped off a 70’s musician by using unauthorized sampling in his song Damn Girl” featured on the 2006 album ‘Futuresex/Lovesounds’.
Here’s the backstory: Back in March, Cirque du Soleil filed suit against Timberlake and music producer Timbaland in Federal Court.
Cirque said Timberlake illegally sampled one of their songs entitled “Steel Dreams”, which was released in 1997. The company said the singer used it without permission in his track “Don’t Hold the Wall” from his 20/20 Experience album. Cirque filed suit demanding all profits from the song in question and an injunction against the song from continuing to be distributed.
