Kevin Hart Earns $87.5 Million, Crowned ‘Cash King of Comedy’, Surpasses Jerry Seinfeld
Kevin Hart Earns $87.5 Million, Crowned ‘Cash King of Comedy’
Congrats to Kevin Hart. He’s officially been named the King of Comedy by Forbes. Since 2006, Jerry Seinfeld has held this title, with his combined pretax earnings over the last 10 years topping $900 million. Year after year, he has claimed the top spot of the world’s highest-paid comedians.
But now, for the first time someone other than Seinfeld has taken the title of the top-earning comedian. According to the new report, between June 2015 and June 2016, Hart made $87.5 million—over $30 million more than Seinfeld’s $43.5 million. Hart is in sixth place on the Celebrity 100, FORBES’ annual list of celebrity money-makers.
The list includes the earnings that come from touring, endorsements, films, DVD sales, TV specials and paid appearances. The estimates are based on data from Pollstar, Box Office Mojo and IMDB, as well as interviews with agents, managers, lawyers and industry insiders.
How does Hart do it? Outside of being talented and being a beast in marketing and branding, he tours relentless. In the 12-month period, Hart played over 100 shows with an average gross of over $1 million at each stop. If you’ve been to one of his recent shows, then you know Hart plays stadiums and arenas, including Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center.
In addition to touring, he continues to take on TV and film and even commercials like Hyundai, Foot Locker and H&M. Congrats to him!
When Charles Lamb said that that a laugh is worth a hundred groans, he may have been onto something, but perhaps it’s worth is closer to a million dollars.
