Master P Calls Out BET Over Prodigy
Master P has decided to skip this year’s BET Awards. The rapper turned mogul explained that he is not pleased with how the network fails to appreciate artists when they are live. He specifically states that he doesn’t agree with how they planned a tribute for rapper Prodigy after his death, as opposed to while he was alive. Master P explains,
The Truth Hurts…BET Would Have Never Changed Their Show For Prodigy If He Was Still Alive!! It was a great thing acknowledging and celebrating the life of Prodigy and all of his accomplishments. But It’s a shame that none of these artists are told how great they are while they’re alive. Why can’t they get their flowers and tokens of appreciation while they’re still living? I know the truth hurts. I just have one serious question… Was Prodigy or Mobb Deep on BET’s radar last week… were they invited to the red carpet event, offered guest passes or an invite to perform at the awards show in the last 10 years? I’m willing to bet the answer is NO. I came to support my daughter today on the BET Experience stage but I decided that my family and I will not participate in the red carpet or awards events this year. I love my people and I support them but we really need to do better by each other. We lost a very talented brother, Prodigy. I send my condolences to his family. Hopefully, one day we can start appreciating the talented sisters and brothers while they are still alive. I know that what I am saying may ruffle a few feathers but the truth needed to be heard.
As previously reported, Prodigy died last week at the age of 42.

Yes, exactly! It’s a shame to say our people are our own downfall. Most artists today are facing the same problems, causing them to dress up like clowns and “black out” all over the stage just to get noticed. It’s become what people vibe on now.
Rap gods from the 80’s/90’s are still making music/making a living at it. Prodigy wrote books, had his own imprint, wrote musicals, and was the CEO of his own net worth.
Today I’m a renewed fan of Prodigy/Mobb Deep. I’d heard a few radio hits before and bopped to the beloved “Quiet Storm” several years ago. I’d heard the name before, never knew who made that song, didn’t know about them and had never seen or read articles about them. Media failed to catapult them up to where they belonged.
I feel so deeply saddened by Prodigy’s untimely death (R.I.P.). I feel a tremendous sense of pride for their work. HAVOC: be ever strong, prayerful, and dedicated to preserving the legacy.
