Eazy-E’s Widow Is Suing Late Rapper’s Son “Lil Eazy E”
A legal battle is brewing over a trademark related to the late rapper, Eazy-E (real name Eric Lynn Wright). According to a report, Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Woods-Wright is suing his son, Eric Darnell Wright, who goes by the name “Lil Eazy-E”.
[FYI: Eazy-E had a son, Eric Darnell Wright, in 1984. He also had a daughter named Erin who has legally changed her name to Ebie. He also has five other children by five separate women during his life. Eazy-E met Tomica Woods at a Los Angeles nightclub in 1991, and they married in 1995, twelve days before his death. They had a son named Dominick and a daughter named Daijah – born six months after Wright’s death.]
Eazy-E founded Ruthless Records in 1986 and Tomika has owned the company since Eazy-E’s death. This week, she filed a federal trademark infringement suit against her stepson, Eric. In the suit, she alleges that Eric and his business partner, Arnold White, have create a website called ruthlessrecordsinc.com. She claims that they are using the site to do business as Ruthless Records. The site is described the company as,
A full service marketing and business strategies firm, specializing in the music and entertainment industry. Our goal is to bring new music to life by inspiring a culture of creative artists. We bring everything under one roof for a full 360 business strategy. Ruthless Records Inc. brings music, entertainment, and culture to our fans in a whole new way… for a whole new era.
According to the suit, both Tomika and Eric attempted to trademark “Ruthless Records Inc.” in 2016, but the application was rejected because it was too similar to Ruthless Records. The suit also alleges that the pair incorporated as NWA-LLC, and are also infringing on the N.W.A trademark.
