NFL’er Michael Bennett Blasts Cops: They drew guns on me for ‘being a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time’
Michael Bennett Claims Cops Used Excessive Force When Arresting Him
NFL’er Michael Bennett says that the police used excessive force, when arresting him last month in Las Vegas. The Seattle Seahawks defensive end has released a statement recounting a story where he alleges police officers pointed guns at him in the early-morning hours on Aug. 27 after the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight in Las Vegas. He says police apprehended him after hearing what sounded like gunshots in a crowded area. See his statement below.
Police Officer Jacinto Rivera stated that Las Vegas police are checking for video and written reports but can’t immediately verify Bennett’s account.
Bennett said he has retained John Burris, an Oakland-based civil rights attorney, to investigate the incident. He has been a vocal advocate for former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the first NFL player to publicly protest during the anthem last season.
Kaepernick, who remains unsigned this season, tweeted his support of Bennett on Wednesday writing:
This violation that happened against my Brother Michael Bennett is disgusting and unjust. I stand with Michael and I stand with the people.
