Angela Bassett – I Should Have Gotten An Oscar For ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’
If you feel as if Angela Bassett was robbed back in 1994 by the Academy, you’re not alone.
During a recent interview, the “Black Panther” actress admitted that she felt that she should have won an Oscar for her portrayal of Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” When told by a fan on social media that they felt she should have won, Bassett responded,
Yeah, me too.
While she didn’t take a trophy home, she did win a Golden Globe for the breakout role.
Bassett has additionally portrayed other notable roles including: Betty Shabazz in both “Malcolm X” (1992) and “Panther” (1995), Katherine Jackson in “The Jacksons: An American Dream” (1992), Rosa Parks in “The Rosa Parks Story” (2002), Voletta Wallace in “Notorious” (2009) and Coretta Scott King in “Betty & Coretta” (2013). Bassett’s performance as Parks was honored with her first Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
