Tiffany Haddish Addresses Monique’s Netflix Boycott: I don’t have that husband of hers & Netflix supports black people!
Already on a roll to becoming a legendary black actress and comedian in such a short time in the industry, Tiffany Haddish has paid her dues. While pursuing her acting career, the 38-year-old California native has been homeless three times as a young adult, living in her car during certain periods. In a a recent interview, Haddish discussed the drama with fellow comedian Mo’nique and her public outcry against Netflix.
Earlier this year, Mo’nique revealed that the company only offered her $500,000 for a comedy special in comparison to the offers made to other comics. Haddish seems to not be on board with protesting the streaming powerhouse and says she can’t relate much to Monique. She explained,
My business run different than her business, I don’t live her life. I don’t have that husband of hers. I’m looking at how [Netflix has] opened up so many opportunities for black females and comedy.
She continued,
When my people are dying, that’s when you gonna catch me protesting. I’m not gonna protest because somebody got offered not the amount of money they wanted to get offered. If you don’t like what they’re offering you, just no longer do business with them.
Haddish says that the streaming service has supported people of color, moreso than some networks.
If I protest Netflix, what about all the black shows that are on there? What about all the other actors that are working on there? All the Indians, the Hispanics, the Asians. My show, The Carmichael Show, airs on there right now. It ain’t on NBC.
Do you agree or disagree with Tiffany’s point of view about Netflix?
