“A Different World” Cast Reunites, Sings Iconic Theme Song [VIDEO]
Cast members of A Different World were spotted together for the first time in years! Jasmine Guy, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer and Kadeem Hardison were all spotted in Atlanta on Monday (April 30th) to announce the winners of Home Depot’s Annual Retool Your School Campaign.
The campaign, now, in it’s ninth year, awards accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) improvement grants to use in creating sustainable innovations and renovations to their campuses. Since 2009, Home Depot has awarded $1.8 million to HBCU’s. Jackson State and Tuskegee Universities were among the nine winners for this year, with the awards totaling $360,000.
Cree shared a video on her Instagram page of the cast singing the iconic theme song from the show. Hardison also shared the video on Instagram with the caption,
Old habits die hard, lotta love in this room. Thanks @homedepot & #retoolyourschool for inviting us to celebrate the 9 winning HBCU’s . And to sing a lil with my old band.

A Different World was a spinoff of The Cosby Show, premiered thirty years ago on NBC and ran for six seasons.
Originally the showed was centered on Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and focused on the lives of students at Hillman College, a fictional historically black college in Virginia. Bonet departed the show after the first season and the series focused more on the Southern belle Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and math genius Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison). Darryl M. Bell portrayed Hardison’s roommate with Dawnn Lewis, Sinbad, Charnele Brown, Glynn Turman rounding out the cast.
The two characters were fan favorites during the series. Culturally, the show had a huge impact as it is credited in helping increase enrollment at HBCU’s during the time the was on the air. Many former students often say A Different World was a defining reason on why they decided to attend a historically black college or university.
Do you think the show should be rebooted?
