50 Cent Responds to NYPD “Get The Strap” Harassment Investigation
Sometimes, saying what you feel on social media can get you in trouble. Superstar rapper 50 Cent may be learning this lesson the hard way. Earlier this month, Teairra Mari hired attorney Lisa Bloom to
take legal action against the G-Unit boss for posting a pic from a leaked sex tape. Now it appears 50’s clever word-play on social posts may have gotten him in even more trouble.
As previously reported, 50 Cent (born Curtis Jackson) filed a trademark for his #GetTheStrap hashtag, and use of that very phrase has the Queens native on the legal hot-seat.
New York City Police revealed the filing of a formal complaint for aggravated harassment against Jackson. Earlier this week, 50 Cent used the popular phrase in a now deleted Instagram post referencing NYPD Deputy Inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez. Detectives are now investigating this post as alleged harassment of the head of the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park.
A rep for the rapper issued a statement ‘clarifying’ the meaning of the phrase.
Mr. Jackson does not condone or promote the use of violence against anyone. “Get The Strap” is a playful phrase used by Mr. Jackson to punctuate absurd and outrageous situations.
When news of the alleged harassment broke, in classic 50 Cent form: he captioned a picture of the report with the words
Oh shit, get the strap. LOL. they investigating my drip, I got too much sauce. #HipHop.
