B5’s line up consisted of brothers Dustin Michael, Kelly Allen, Patrick Owen, Carnell Frederick and Bryan Jesse. In the early 2000s the group was touring and a part of many shows for many famous entertainers which included, including Akon, Mario Winans, Kanye West, Ginuwine, Usher, Fantasia, Bow Wow, Chris Brown, T-Pain, Omarion, Soulja Boy and NSYNC.
While passing through Atlanta, their manager Jim McMahan, introduced them to L. A. Reid and Jermaine Dupri. Shortly after, they met Sean “P.Diddy” Combs and were signed by Bad Boy Entertainment.
P Diddy along with other hot producers such as Rodney Jerkins, Ryan Leslie, Sean Garrett, Corna Boyz and Veit Renn produced B5s debut album. Their lead single, “All I Do”, is cover of The Jackson 5’s single “All I Do Is Think of You” similar to a cover released by popular 80s group Troop. The song was suggested to them by Rodney and it was hit. B5’s debut self titled album reached number seven on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart, after entering at #19 in its first week of release on the Billboard 200 and #11 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The group’s next single, “U Got Me”, failed to make Billboard Top 200. However, it was popular song. Both singles peaked at #9 on Radio Disney and hung on the BET’s 106 & Park Top 10 for weeks.
Their second album “Don’t Talk, Just Listen” was released on September 11, 2007. Hot producer Bryan Michael Cox as well as Mario Winans, Soul Diggaz, Danja, Blaze, The Underdogs, Insomoniax, and Mischke were credited for their work. “Hydrolics”, featuring Bow Wow, was the first single. The CD was executive produced by Diddy, Kevin Wales and Harve Pierre and it was their last album Bad Boy Records.
