“Cosby Show” Actor Ridiculed for Working at Trader Joe’s
This is where minding someone else’s business goes wrong! Fox News spoke with a Clifton, NJ shopper who spotted ex-“Cosby Show” actor Geoffrey Owens working as a cashier at a local Trader Joe’s store.
Geoffrey, 57, starred as Elvin Tibideaux for eight seasons, from 1984 to 1992. The shopper told Fox:
“I was just in Trader Joe’s and I said to my wife, I said, ‘Wait a minute, that’s the guy from ‘The Cosby Show.’”
He continued:
“I pulled up a site on the Internet to look at a picture of him and said, ‘That is him.’ I have never seen him at Trader Joe’s before. I was getting a bunch of groceries and he wasn’t really looking at anybody, but he said, ‘Have a nice day.'”
Many of Geoffrey’s fellow actors came to his defense, saying that getting steady acting work is no easy feat, and that holding down a 9-5 is honorable. “Everybody Hates Chris” actor Terry Crews tweeted about his own experience working in Corporate America. He said:
“I swept floors AFTER the
@NFL . If need be, I’d do it again. Good honest work is nothing to be ashamed of.”
Veteran actor/singer Jason Weaver said that Geoffrey should have no shame in his job.
“Bad Girls Club” alum Tanisha Thomas called the Fox story “distasteful”.
Fellow actress Karen Murray updated us, revealing Geoffrey Owens is still in the arts community. She tweeted:
“He also teaches Shakespeare and was on Broadway a few years ago. He’s a class act working actor/teacher.”
